Disney has increased their bid for 21st Century Fox’s entertainment assets, increasing to $71.3 billion. This places Disney in the top bidding spot after last week’s $65 billion bid from Comcast Corp., the parent company of Universal. The winning bidder will be the new owner of properties such as The Simpsons, Avatar, and yes, even Deadpool.
After acquiring Marvel, Disney has already had to deal with a variety of negotiations with Universal to determine how the properties can be used in the Theme Parks, specifically in Orlando. Adding additional properties that already exist at the Universal Theme Parks to Disney’s ever-growing list of brands will prove challenging for the two companies to agree on.
I only hope that whichever company does end up winning this deal uses the properties to their full potential. Competition between the brands always means that the consumer wins in the end.
