You’re not going to believe this…

…but we just made reservations at Cabana Bay next January for our first ever visit to Universal Studios Orlando (queue the horrified gasps!).

This will be the first time I’ve ever been to Florida and not gone to Walt Disney World. Let me tell you why.

We love Disney, I mean LOVE! However, in recent years, the cost of a Walt Disney World vacation has increased pretty drastically. Staying at Fort Wilderness for a week with 7 people and tickets good for four days cost us close to $5,000 this past February. That was before food, fuel, souvenirs, etc.

Now, a stay in a 2 bedroom suite at Cabana Bay for a week that includes Universal’s version of the park hopper for the entire length of stay, is costing us right about the same amount. That includes one hour early admission to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter or Volcano Bay on each of those days as well.

We will spend less on fuel since we aren’t towing anything and will arrive in fewer hours since we can drive the speed limit without having to worry about the limitations on the trailer tires (you can only go about 55 mph).

Cabana Bay has a host of amenities as well. While we love the main pool area at Fort Wilderness, with it’s water slide, kiddie pool, and splash pad for little ones, Cabana Bay wins this one.

Cabana Bay features two pools. One has a water slide while another has a lazy river. There are also hot tubs, a splash pad, and more. Both pools also feature white sand seating areas, poolside games, and cabanas for rent.

As for the room, the 2 bedroom suite features one room with a Queen bed, one room with two Queen beds, and a living room with a Queen sized pull out sofa bed. It also has 2 bathrooms (possibly my favorite part!).

While I do love having our camper with us when we travel so we basically have beds and a bathroom on wheels, I really am looking forward to giving Universal a try.

Have you been to universal Studios Orlando before? Be sure to tell me about it in the comments below!
